No room in your home for traditional surround sound speakers? Odd living room layout preventing good speaker placement? Want something a bit less cumbersome? Check out soundbars!
Soundbars are special loudspeaker enclosures that simulate a surround sound system from a single unit. They are generally long and thin and can be set on a tabletop or mounted to the wall directly under your television.
The technology for soundbars has come a long way since they were first designed and sold. Today’s bars are feature-rich, sound incredible and are a great alternative to setting up a room full of speakers and amp equipment. Starting around $150, they are reasonably priced too.
We install so many soundbars now-a-days and really only recommend two (in the medium price range) – the Samsung and the Sony. Our favorite by far is the SONY 660 soundbar. The quality is just incredible. Soundbars start around $150… but with items of this nature you usually get what you pay for. We recommend choosing one that is no less than $250. Also, if you plan on getting a soundbar for your home we highly recommend going to an electronics store and listening to them yourself – you can always purchase them online later if you find a better price… but hearing them in person is the only way to pick one that is right for you and your home.
